Welcome to Kwa-Zulu Natal, the Zulu Kingdom of South Africa.  After collecting your rental vehicle from Kingshaka International Airport, make your way to Umhlanga Rocks where you will stay at the Oysterbox Hotel.  Enjoy the remainder of the day exploring this vast cultural area.

Enjoy breakfast at leisure at your hotel before embarking on a Durban City Tour Experience.  

Begin with a pickup from your central Durban hotel and set off for Durban’s ‘Golden Mile,’ a popular stretch of beachfront with hotels, restaurants and shops. You may see traditional healers at the water’s edge, collecting seawater in bottles to use as medicine, or Indian women in saris walking on the beach to enjoy the sunny weather.

Drive past Durban City Hall, hearing amusing stories about its history from your guide, followed by a visit to the Phansi Museum. The exhibits featured in this museum include Zulu jewelry and ceramics as well as other South African artifacts. Explore the museum with your guide before making your way to the city’s Botanic Gardens.

The gardens were established in 1849 and the plants growing throughout the property are a mix of African as well as American and Asian in origin. Learn about the influence of Indian immigrants on Durban’s history, including the cuisine — sample some famous South African ‘Bunny Chow’ before the tour ends and you’re returned to your hotel.

Day Notes

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel before your Midland Meander Tour. Make your way out of the city into the gently rolling countryside towards Pietermaritzburg, the Capital City of Kwazulu-Natal, and Howick.

Upon arrival, we view the Howick Falls, an approximately 100 metres of spectacular display almost in the centre of the picturesque town itself. You have time to browse around in the little shops in the area. We proceed and visit the site, where Nelson Mandela was captured on 5th Aug 1962. We continue via some local arts and crafts shops, if participants are interested to one of the highlights of the day: Ardmore Ceramics.

continue towards Nottingham Road, and after a light lunch in the area, and further browsing in the arts and crafts shops, we return to Durban in the afternoon.

Enjoy Lunch at the Lodge and after Depart from the Lodge for your Afternoon Game Viewing Safari.

Return back to the Lodge and enjoy Dinner before rest of evening at Leisure.
